Guided By the Word of God

Psalm 119: 108 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” This psalm teaches us that the Word of God is our guide.  The Word of God lights our path

What is the difference between the Word of God being a lamp and a light?

The Word of God acts like a lamp or a flashlight which shines down upon the path directly in front of us.  Each step that we take will be guided by the lamp that shines down upon every step that we take. This speaks of our daily walk, our steps guided by the Word of God.

Psalm 37: 23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord…”

Psalm 119: 133 says, “Order my steps in thy word…”

Every day decisions can by guided by the truths found in the Bible.  The Word of God acts like a lamp or a flashlight that shows us which steps to take every day. The Word of God also acts like a light.

Have you ever walked down a pathway that is not lit up by some type of lights.  You are not sure which way you are going.  Yes every step I take is guided by my lamp or flashlight but where I am ultimately going.

Whereas I walk in short steps which speaks of short step by step guidance but a well lit path shows me what direction I am to take.

Steps speak of immediate guidance, guided by my flashlight, but a well lit path speaks of my ultimate destination.  That ultimate direction also speaks of the promise of God.

Obedience to the Word of God will involve steps I must take to obey that Word.  Obedience to that Word has an ultimate promise.

Job 36: 11 “If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasures.”

The Word of God serves as my lamp, directed me to obey what I read in the Word.  The path to the reward of obedience is well lit.  Follow the path; order my steps to do what I need to do to obey that word and I will find the reward at the end of that path.
