As Unto the Lord
It is such a blessing when people say what is called the “sinners prayer” believing their sins are forgiven and they will go to heaven when they die.
However, we are not only to receive Jesus as our savior, but also our Lord. That word Lord means that Jesus is your absolute master, leader and authority in your life.
In fact Jesus tells us in the Bible, that if we truly have received Him as our savior, He needs to be the Lord of our life, which means we obey His word.
John records this statement, “if you abide in Me and my words abide in you”. If you love Jesus, let His words live in you.
Obedience to the Word of God should be your personal quest, if Jesus is truly your Savior and Lord.
The Bible also tells us, as true Christians, that we are to do all things as unto the Lord. That encompasses everything you do in your life.
We are to be lights in a dark world. Our lifestyles should demonstrate excellence and diligence.
I once overheard someone talking about trying to get a contractor to come and do some work for them. I heard them say that if they see a fish sign or a Christian bumper sticker on their truck they will not use them. It wasn’t because they were anti-Christian, it was because they have learned by experience that maybe one or two experiences with Christian contractors have taught them that they were never on time, never kept their word or did a sloppy job.
That is a terrible witness. If we are truly disciples of Jesus Christ, we will obey the Biblical mandates. It says in the Bible, that we are to do all things as unto the Lord.
If I have a job with responsibilities such as showing up on time or completing jobs that are assigned to me without complaining, you need to treat your job and your boss as if they were the Lord.
If you have a home or a car, take care of it as it was property of the Lord. I once saw a car which seem to be held together with Christian bumper stickers.
I knew someone who was mad at God because they were pulled over for speeding and got a ticket. That person said to me, that he couldn’t believe he got a ticket because he was praising the Lord while he was driving. I told him, but you were speeding! He didn’t get it.
We are to do everything we do as unto the Lord. Be diligent on our jobs. Show up on time. Complete with excellence everything assigned to us.
Take care of your car and your home. You are a witness of Jesus Christ to the world.
And especially if you have a business or a trade. Keep your word. Be honest in what you charge and complete the job on time and with excellence.
Do all that you do as unto the Lord.
