God Keeps His Promises
In the New Testament, Jesus called Satan a liar and the father of lies. The biggest tool of Satan is lying and deception. He makes promises but does not keep them.
Our Father God, on the other hand, keeps His word and keeps His promises.
The greatest example I see in the Bible is the promise given to Abraham. Abraham had no son. His wife, Sarah, was barren. But God made a promise to Abraham.
In Genesis 15: 1 God says to Abram, “I am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward.” But Abram responds in verse 2, “Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless.”
All that God did to bless Abram did not satisfy a longing in Abram’s heart; to have a son.
The Lord takes Abram under the night sky and tells him that his seed will be as the number of the stars. You will have a son that will come out of your bowels and not someone else’s.
Genesis 15: 6 “and he believed the Lord and He counted it to him for righteousness.”
Even though some years passed and Abraham was 100 years old and his wife over 90 years, Abraham still believed God.
Romans 4: 19-21 “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. And being fully persuaded that, WHAT HE HAD PROMISED, HE WAS ALSO ABLE TO PERFORM.”
Wow! Years had passed since God told him the promise. Abraham and his wife’s body are old and well passed childbearing, yet Abraham believed that promise of God.
Do you realize the many promises of God given to us because of the sacrificial death of Jesus?
II Peter 1: 3 – 4 “According as His divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us, exceeding great and precious PROMISES, that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Exceeding great and precious PROMISES. These promises, blessings, rights, authority, power and privileges are ours through our faith in the saving grace and mercy of Jesus Christ who died for our sins.
All these are found in the Word of God. Do you know them? Have you come into the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue?
Most of all are you fully persuaded that, what God has promised, He is able also to perform.
Have the faith of our father in the faith, Abraham, who despite the things he saw, felt and probably heard from others, BELIEVED IN THE PROMISES OF HIM WHO KEEPS HIS PROMISES.
